DIY IMAGE TRANSFER the easy way

Hello All,

Today I am here to share a project that has brought back some very cherished childhood memories and everytime I look at it or use it brings a smile to my face. I had this set of coasters which were lying in my cupboard unused for a very long time and when we got a new table my husband insisted we start using coasters and  so i thought i would use some images that will be a part of us.

It was a very fun project, I took some images from my favourite comics off the internet and resiced them using Canva and made a collage with mirroe images then printed them on a laser printer. Once I had the prints I just cut them out to size of the coaster and coated them with a layer of matt medium and let them dry.

Once the pieces were dry I used Modpodge to adhere them onto the coasters and used a kitchen towel to press it down firmly and to take out all the bubbles or air pockets....then let them dry for an hour.

Next i used a spray bottle to wet the paper and gently remove the layers of paper using my fingers. This is a little messy and a dry towel and a dry brush comes in very handy to remove the lints of paper from the project. Take this slowly and let the image dry a bit as when the image dries it gets cloudy and shows where the layers of paper is still left so that you get a clearer image and also heps you not to rub over areas that are clear as then you might end up rubbing of the image as well so do this step carefully and then when you are happy with the image let it dry.

Coat the image with varnish to protect it.

Since I wanted to darken the colour of wood and did not have a dark wax to do so I just used a brown acrylic paint and some varnish mixed together to coat the wood. I used 3 coats with drying time in between each coat. then the all the pieces were coated with a coat of clear varnish to protect the project and make it water resistant.

I used the titles of the images i had used to decorate the box of the coasters using the same process.

I hope you liked the project and will enjoy trying it.
